They are normally found along the seashore and riverbeds. These intriguing stones are known as hag stones, and they have a long history of folklore and superstition surrounding them.

Some people may call Hag stones, witch stones, fairy stones, or holy stones, they are believed to have magical properties and are often considered to be protective talismans. 

In a number of cultures, hag stones are thought to ward off evil spirits, protect against nightmares, and bring good luck to those who wear them. Some believe that looking through the hole in a hag stone allows the viewer to see into the fairy realm or ward off witches and other scary beings.
